The brand that first brought indie to the White Isle has undergone an evolution in recent years, and while live gigs still occasionally feature on the schedule, primarily Ibiza Rocks is now all about the pool parties, albeit it with an urban and house twist. And that’s great news for us, because there’s nothing better than swaying to some tropical tunes with the sun warming your back and a piña colada in hand, then come nighttime more of the same, but now beneath a blanket of Balearic stars. In the past, the San Antonio venue has been rocked by the soulful sounds of Craig David and voice of a generation Stormzy, who makes the annual flight over to the white isle to deliver his unmissable #Merky shows.

Ibiza Rocks first landed on the island in 2005. Back then it was known as Bar M, and it wasn’t until 2008 that the Ibiza Rocks Hotel we now know and love first opened its gates. At the time, the mission was simple: bring quality, live acts to the white isle; offer a diverse soundscape that challenges the status quo. And that’s exactly what they did – for almost a decade some of the biggest names in live music appeared on the Ibiza Rocks stage. From legends like CHIC!, New Order, De La Soul and Primal Scream to at the time relatively unknown names like Dua Lipa, London Grammar and Dizzee Rascal. The Rocks stage was a platform that allowed live music to flourish. Alas, times change, and over the years the crowd increasingly came in search of heavier basslines, more synths and less strings. Never ones to resist change, Rocks went with the flow, and now the venue’s more known for its daytime pool party action than its nighttime shows. Nevertheless, that same rock’n’roll spirit remains – one thing this venue will never be able to shake is how to provide a good time.
Distinguishing features: A clued-in, cool-as-you-like crowd that are only in it for the good times, an abundance of flamingo inflatables and teeny tiny swimwear, feel-good vibes that stick beneath your skin long after you’ve landed back on the tarmac.
Most likely to: Fall under Craig David’s inescapable spell.
Least likely to: Watch shyly from the shadows.
Most iconic party: Craig David’s TS5 pool parties. In fact, you could say that the smoothest man in pop is single-handedly responsible for fuelling the pool party revolution at Ibiza Rocks. Not to be missed.
