Standing proudly on Ibiza’s recently pedestrianised and most famous square, Vara de Rey, the Gran Hotel Montesol is Ibiza’s oldest and most iconic hotel, not to mention one of the most stylish and aesthetically stunning hotels on the island. It was recently lovingly refurbished (now sitting under the care of the Curio Collection by Hilton), with every effort made to restore the hotel to its original stunning glory.
Each of the 33 rooms at the Montesol were curated by famous Spanish designer, Lázaro Rosa-Violán, so there’s an emphasis on elegant details, luxury flourishes and beds as soft as fluffy white marshmellows. Many rooms also look out onto the vibrant streets below.
The Montesol’s own cocktail bar has become a destination in its own right with locals, thanks in part to its impressive Art Deco style, but more thanks to its first-class, original cocktails. Sup on a Tom Collins while watching the world go by, then head for the restaurant to simple delicious local fare in glamorous surroundings.
With its prime location in the very heart of the city, the Montesol is also an ideal base for exploring the well-trodden, cobbled streets of the Unesco World Heritage Site, Dalt Vila. Wander through the winding streets and lose yourself in a state of Medieval charm, or bar hop from bustling place to place to try out the local tapas. You’re also just moments away from the town’s busy port, where billionaires moor their superyachts in summer.
